What are Low Surface Energy (LSE) surfaces?
Low surface energy surfaces are materials that are difficult to bond to other materials using adhesives due to molecules that have a weak attraction to other molecules, typically with a surface energy below 36 dynes/cm. Examples of LSE materials include polypropylene, polyethylene, and non-stick surfaces like Teflon, as well as polyolefin plastic, certain types of paints, and silicone- and powder-coated finishes.
What is the 4800 Series Ultra-High Bond Tape Used For?
While useful for the automotive industry and other industries that require adhesive bonding of LSE surfaces, the 4800 Series UHB tape is ideal for trailer manufacturers and trailer construction. The 4800 series bond is so strong and secure that it completely eliminates the need for trailer rivets and bonds completely within 20 minutes of application.
Is a Primer Required When Using Capital Tape’s 4800 Series Ultra-High Bond Tape?
No! In fact, the 4800 Series UHB tape was specifically designed by Capital Tape to replace and eliminate any need for surface primers.
How Resistant to the Elements is the 4800 Series Ultra-High Bond Tape?
The 4800 Series Ultra-High Bond tape does not absorb moisture, will not harden or brittle with age, and offers excellent resistance to water, solvents, and UV light. The short-term (minutes-to-hours of exposure) temperature resistance of the 4800 Series is 300°F (149°C) and has a long-term temperature resistance (days-to-weeks) of 200°F (93°C).
